Character Costumes
Welcome back, followers! I apologize for my lengthy inactivity. Today, I will go more in depth discussing costumes in our movie, which I briefly talked about in previous blogs.
Costume 1: Protagonists
There are three main protagonists in our film. Me, Edison, and Eugene. For these characters, we want to establish a casual look to relate to the audience, as if the viewers have every chance to be in the position of the protagonists as well. The look will more or less resemble a casual T-shirt and jeans or sweatpants, with sneakers. This signifies our lack of preparedness for the dangers we will encounter in the woods, showing our ignorance and vulnerability in the face of conflict. We also plan to make the central protagonist (vlogger) wear a lightweight, dark jacket as a standout from the other two characters, even elevating his status slightly. Moreover, we are considering using some simple camera gear on Edison to show his vlogger role. Something simple like a GoPro strap will do, telling the audience of his vlogging hobby and experience. As for the hair, we will likely go for unmade, messy hair. This resembles the young, teenage-like styles of the characters, signifying their possible poor decision making. If we were to counter this with styled, neat hair, we would come off as more mature, taking away the effect we desire from our characters.
Costume 2: Antagonist
Our fourth and final member, Rayyan, will be playing the antagonist role in the film. He will be the mysterious, shadowy figure that will be seen in the forest, creating the danger to the protagonists in the film. For this character, we plan to use a Grim Reaper costume. This was a quite easy choice to make as it is commonly associated around the world with danger and death. For this reason, it allows us to make an easy connection to our audience. More so, since the costume is a full cover, hair would not be an issue for this character as the hood covers it. Also, given the Grim Reapers dark appearance, he will be difficult for our protagonists to spot in the forest, justifying this horror experience. This character will also carry around his widely-known scythe to complete his characterization. His quite intimidating appearance also adds to the fear we want, completing the package as the antagonist in a horror genre film.
