Final Project Sound

Audio of the Trail

Welcome back, everyone. Today, I will be analyzing the various sounds that will be used in our movie! We haven't officially began editing sounds as we still require some major scenes to be recorded. However, since I couldn't attend the first shooting, I did look through all the videos taken to begin formulating our sounds for the final movie. Rayyan will be helping me with the sounds as well.

Possibly a major flaw I noticed in our first day of filming was the LACK of sound. The microphone did not pick up on enough natural sounds like twigs, trees rustling, etc. It took away from the setting greatly, so we will need to add sound effects for these things, or even just re-shoot some of those scenes. Also, the mic failed to pick up on Edison's voice. In later shoots, we certainly need to do better in microphone placement and we will need to do audio adjustments in the editing phase. Our diegetic sound will be all of these elements combined: character dialogue, natural sounds, and enhanced object sounds like lantern clicks and heartbeats (foley stage + sound effects). As for non-diegetic sound, we really want to bring home the idea of horror, so having an unsettling instrumental playing in the background will help evoke the necessary mood in our audience.

Although we haven't officially began editing yet, we have been rummaging around for sound ideas, looking through the YouTube Audio Library and Bensound to find copyright-free music to implement in our film. Sound types of sounds we have checked out include intense piano notes for the climax of our film to emphasize the distress of the characters. As soon as we complete filming most of our film, Rayyan and I will use CapCut to compose our film and its sound layering. I am most comfortable with this editing software as I have used it in the past on various occasions, including for this course when Eugene and I composed our Sound Project a few months ago. However, due to recent governmental policies, CapCut may not be available soon, so we may have to figure out an alternative editing software. As for now though, CapCut is our #1 priority.
